For the fourth year in a row renowned UK record label Wah Wah 45s return to The Scala to showcase some of the imprint’s finest acts, new discoveries, new friends and welcome two of Europe’s most legendary DJ collectives and finest sound systems.

On Saturday November 10th we’re bringing together another enormous soundclash of musicians, DJs, MCs, VJs and bingo callers (!) to once again bring you the biggest and greatest Wah Wah Party known to man.

In the main room you’ll find yourself being beautifully warmed up by one of this year’s landmark signings for the label, Miss Bev Lee Harling. Having received the prestigious honour of Album of the Week from Gilles Peterson on BBC 6Music earlier this year, Bev has won an army of fans with her sometimes sweet, sometimes sassy live show that utilises woks, cheese graters and typewriters as well as more standard instrumentation. And that’s just the beginning! We’ve got live sets from Worldwide Jazz Album of the Year award winner Matthew Halsall, who’ll be performing a highly anticipated electro-acoustic set with his trio; another new Wah Wah signing, Paper Tiger, whose heady mixture of post-dubstep and hip hop has won them fans from Lauren Laverne to Homeboy Sandman; French DJ, producer and musician Debruit (Civil Music), whose electronic take on the tropical sound is nothing less than astonishing; and finally the live album launch from our number one dub masters Resonators, whose album “The Constant” is released this autumn on Wah Wah 45s!

And we’re not finished there! Room One also plays host to two of the Europe’s most respective and influential collectives, Jazzanova and Trojan Sound System.

Jazzanova are many things to many different people. For more than fifteen years the eclectic collective from Berlin has been busy producing, composing, arranging, remixing, DJing and generally shaping our musical world – in the clubs, on the air, in the studio, live on stage, and with their label Sonar Kollektiv. From their early underground stardom in the late 90s, due to anthems like “Fedime’s Flight”, to their latest opus “Funkhaus Studio Sessions” and their soulful live show, Jazzanova remain stalwarts of the scene, and some of the finest DJs around.

Having blown our minds earlier this year with a rare London DJ set, we had to invite Jazzanova’s Class Brieler back for more musical goodness. His sets are as eclectic and broad as you would expect, with pin-point mixing skills and the ability to turn a party out. We can’t wait.

Formed in 2004, London based Trojan Sound System are an institution in British sound system culture. A legendary team of selectors and vocalists, they relentlessly tour the globe, representing the most seminal reggae and Ska record label in history. For the past 8 years, Trojan Sound System have spread their message of love and unity through the power of Ska, Roots, Dub, Dancehall and UK bass music, headlining club shows, captivating festival crowds and supporting legendary Jamaican acts such as; Horace Andy, Luciano and the late great, Gregory Isaacs to name but a few.

Transcending age, race and political barriers, Trojan Sound System play music that satisfies the purest of vinyl collectors, while at the same time, introducing a new generation to the roots of Jamaican music. The perfect ‘after-party’ for the Resonators live show!

And as if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also got reggae bootleg don J*Star performing a short set for us and support from your Wah Wah favourites, Servini, Scrimshire, Part-time Heroes, Konvex & Bopperson.

For the third year in a row, Room 2 sees the return of the wonderful Musical Bingo with the irrepressible Jess Indeedy on the mic and DJ Helix spinning those all important tunes. Musical Bingo with Jess Indeedy host nights across the capital, that combine everyone’s granny’s favourite pastime with quality DJs and a combination of top and rather kitsch prizes. You’ll receive your Musical Bingo card on entry to the venue, and games will take place on the hour at 11pm, 12am and 1am on the night.

Finally, in Room 3, we’re proud to present yet another brand new Wah Wah signing, in the shape of soulful trio Maze Hill! Their debut EP is due out this September on Wah Wah 45s and we anticipate that by the time this show comes around you should be rather excited about this early set from this unique outfit. DJs in Room 3 come from two of our favourite collectives, Boglewaltz and Movimientos, who’ll be mixing up tropical, soul and afro-beat sounds with a little r&b, pop and the odd shock selection! And if you need a break from all that, then head to the Wah Wah Shop for limited edition tees, stickers, vinyl and CDs courtesy of Hands On Music. Plus look out for CD signings throughout the night from some of your favourite Wah Wah artists.

Optical delights come courtesy of our favourite light surgeons, Exceeda & Jim.

The Hollow – Gilles Peterson’s album of the week

14 May 2012 / 0 Comments / in All news, News, Scrimshire/by Adam

Everyone at Wah Wah is pretty excited this week at The Hollow being album of the week on Gilles Peterson’s new BBC 6 Music radio show.

Gilles played the acoustic version of A Promise Is All It Was and album track Afar, which also features the keys of Jessica Lauren.

If you haven’t listened to the album yet you can right here on this site. Listen to the whole thing on the Scrimshire page.

You can download the full album now including the acoustic versions of A Promise and Home. You can also download Scrimshire singles and “name your price” with no minimum.

So if the double dip is hitting your music budget hard then you don’t have to be deprived of high quality Wah Wah music. Equally, if you have been avoiding taxes or stashing your secret fortune in offshore accounts, you could opt to pay, say, £10,000 for a single- why not?

Either way, go and listen right now.

Scrimshire will be playing new tracks from his album The Hollow along with live remixes and dub versions made perfectly for the sunny setting. Expect afrobeat, house and soul.

Stac returns to Soundwave this year to play classic tracks from Turn That Light Out alongside plenty of exclusive new songs. Last year when a massive storm set in Stac relocated to the warm and intense indoors of Barbarellas and then performed one of the festival highlights to a packed room. A mesmerising set that captivated a rowdy crowd of festival goers.

With her new EP alongside Royce Wood Jnr out now, a week of exclusive session tracks on Mary-Anne Hobbs’ XFM show out of the way and a new album in the making, expect to be mesmerised once more!

Stac will also be running around and putting on stunning performances with the OneTaste collective including the likes of Eska no less!

Celebrating the release of their 2nd album Lightfalls, the Part-Time Heroes will once again be in attendance. Expect several bouncing, beautiful DJ sessions to keep your weekend in exactly the kind of spirits it should be.

Our very own DJ legend Dom Servini himself will also be on board this year to grace the Soundwave decks with his own unique brand of afro funk, soul, beats and boogie and party classics – not to be missed.

And Scrimshire will also be playing a record or two…

And that is not all!

On the Friday Evening Wah Wah 45s will be hosting a KILLER boat party to really heat up your weekend!

New Scrimshire album The Hollow announced!

16 Sep 2011 / 1 Comment / in All news, News, Scrimshire/by Adam

It’s been in the making for some time now. Despite a hectic schedule embracing the making of other albums (notably our own Stac’s Turn That Light Out), DJing and running this very label, Scrimshire has also been putting together the follow up to his debut “Along came the Devil one night…”.

We’ll give you more details about it in the coming weeks but suffice to say it is well worth the wait. The official release date is November 21st 2011. This will be supported with a launch party and you can also see Adam performing live at the Scala with a new band line up and many new tunes on October 15th.

In the meantime though keep your eye on www.scrimshire.com as there are weekly giveaways of previous Scrimshire records and as of today the mysterious series of ‘postcards’.

Scrimshire himself has been creating several one-minute videos depicting a journey to The Hollow. Each one is accompanied by a special alternative version of an album track, an exclusive preview of what you can expect on November 21st.

Here is the first – which you can also see at www.scrimshire.com/postcards
