"Home" is a good place to start for this latest opus, representing as it does a trip back in time to the roots of this young man's music, with a more contemporary electronic edge.

This October sees the return of singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, DJ and erstwhile Wah Wah 45s label boss, Adam Scrimshire, with the debut offering to be taken from his second album “The Hollow”.

“Home” is a good place to start for this latest opus, representing as it does a trip back in time to the roots of this young man’s music, with a more contemporary electronic edge. Stunning harmonies come courtesy of our very own Faye Houston from dub reggae favourites Resonators, and bass worrying dance floor interpretations are taken care of by U.S. heavyweight Captain Planet and those young turks from Leeds, Paper Tiger. But if time is needed for reflection, look no further than Scrimshire’s own acoustic ‘re-version’, with the man himself laying his soul bare on vocal duties.

“The Hollow” will be released by Wah Wah 45s on November 21st.

See the new video for Home here:

—————————–

REACTIONS (Leave yours below too)

“I love it!” Danny Krivit (disco legend, USA)

“Perhaps Scrimshire’s finest hour, ‘Home’ is a heart-wrenching voyage of discovery.” Jon Freer (freersounds.com)

“Home is the perfect downtempo track. With its welcome hints of world sounds, it reminds of something you may hear on the Buddha Bar series.” Giant Step

“Home is perhaps Scrimshire’s finest tune to date. There’s an experimental edge in both the production and arrangement, however, it’s the songwriting that takes centre-stage, with Adam and Faye sharing writing credits. Defying facile classification, Home delivers a laid-back vibe with bite. It’s certainly not all fur coat and no knickers, with each spin leisurely unravelling the tune’s secrets, building its resonance.” Soulcuts

“Feeling the Captain Planet mix – nice !” Phil Levene (Global Soul / The Village, UK)

“nice one… i’m really feelin’ the paper tiger remix and the lovely acoustic re-version !!” Markus Milz (further in fusion)

“Captain Planet’s broken beat pearl remix, hurry to test it!” Dj Laurel
Sounddiving group, Free Theatre Belarus

“Each of the tracks sounds interesting for me, but my favorites are Original Radio Edit, Captain Planet Remix, Acoustic Re-version” Dr.Best Radio Z 95.8 Nuernberg/Germany

“Digging that Captain Planet remix.” Paris Pompor, Sydney Morning Herald, Groupie Mag, Pages Digital, 2SER 107.3, Eastside 89.7

“I like this one very much indeed, the Captain Planet remix is massive!!”
Georgios Paroglou

“The beautiful and magically produced blacktronic music by Scrimshire is back, good news!” Santiago Tadeo Cervera (www.acidjazzhispano.com, Spain)

“Reflective, soulful electronica…” http://www.mememagazine.com/

“YES!!! So happy to get this, all versions are great but been mysteriously pulled to the acoustic version. Now onto the album if you will thank-you kindly! ;o)” King Tee, Audio Sunshine, RTE

“Great single! From the remixes I love Captain Planet’s most. And of course I’ll play the tune at my radio show.” Soulmate, “45 RPM” radio show

“So far I’m really liking the Home (Acoustic Re-version) and I’ll be playing it on tonights show. I might also support the radio version on a future show.” DJ Nelito

The latest HCB offering on 7-inches of wax, featuring the massive Blackstreet cover plus brand new Balkan monster "House Arrest"!

Following on from the huge success of their eponymous debut long-player, everyone’s favourite East London brass and drum ensemble return with one of the album’s highlights on 7-inches of heavyweight fat wax. This version of “No Diggity”, the 90’s r&b hit by Blackstreet, has been a favourite in HCB’s live shows for some time now, long before it was committed to tape. Following on from the album’s release, this sousa led hip hop/funk hybrid has become a dance floor staple for many a discerning DJ. Not a difficult decision then to make this club smasher the band’s third vinyl release, but to add extra value to the package we’ve put something rather special and exclusive on the flip! “House Arrest” is an original, party starting Balkan monster, complete with frenetic hand-claps and singing (yes singing!) from the 9-piece outfit, showing another side to the HCB sound, and adding another huge anthem to their repertoire.

Hackney Colliery Band is East London’s unique take on the brass band phenomenon. Featuring trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphone and marching percussion, the band are totally acoustic and yet able to blow the roof off any room. Hackney Colliery Band’s members have hugely diverse musical backgrounds, ranging from work with cutting edge jazz group Porpoise Corpus to the Bollywood Brass Band, and from Jarvis Cocker to major orchestras. This breadth of musical talent is clearly on display in their eclectic repertoire. Mining nuggets of funk, hip-hop and hi-octane rock from the musical coalface and throwing in a few chunks of Balkan brass, ska and contemporary jazz for good measure, the Hackney Colliery Band’s setlist is as diverse as the London borough that gave them their name.

———————————————-

REACTIONS:

“Who’s idea was it to get UK’s Hackney Colliery Band to cover an r&b dance floor classic in a big brass band style? Bloody genius….” Nik Weston (Mukatsuku Records/Guynamukat, UK)

“Loving that “no diggity” version, goes straight in the box for tonight! once again thanks for sending and big thanks for keeping on releasing such fantastic music!” Karsten John (Vinyl Vibes, Germany)

“The HCB version of No Diggity is flaming awesome; dramatic with the flow, and dem beats are mighty fine too – this track’s sure to put a smile on the face of anyone and pack many a dance floor.” DJ Marcia Carr (UK)

“Nice one, thx! Will play it on the radio show.” DJ Rogall (weekly 88.4 fm , berlin & multicult fm)

“Thanks, just got the No Diggity/House Arrest seven by mail!! I think I already earlier gave feedback related to Hackney Collier Band cd, No Diggity was one of my favourites there and it is also on one of my Wahoo! shows on Samurai FM:
http://samurai.fm/wahoo/wahoo-130-with-vesa-yli-pelkonen” DJ Vesa (Wahoo! Helsinki, Finland)

“One of the highlights on the Hackney Colliery Band’s debut album was a brass band heavy version of the R&B hit “No Diggity” from Backstreet. It was a favourite of the outfit’s live show long before it was officially recorded for this Wah Wah 45s release – and it’s not hard to see why. Over on the flip, “House Arrest” is a skankin Balkan affair with handclaps aplenty!” Juno Records

“Absolutely KILLER!!!!” DJ Kinski (Germany)

“Just a quick note to say thanks for sending up the hackney colliery band 7″. It’s great to have “no diggity” on vinyl and the flip is a big tune as well!” Simon Harrison (Basic Soul, UK)

“The two tracks are awesome! I (as a Balkan person) love the horn side of music. But I think Hackney Colliery Band should think about some vocal tracks…” Dobromir Marzov a.k.a Soulmate (The “45 RPM” radio show, Bulgaria)

“A very nice one !” Ralf Zitzmann (Agogo Records, Germany)

“We already knew that No diggity was a winner, but the great surprise is House Arrest, an explosion of joy and rhythm” Santiago Tadeo Cervera (www.acidjazzhispano.com, Spain)

“Great music! Nice version of “No Diggity”! Hector Pizarro (Chile con mix, France)

“Monster!” Ross Wakefield (Part-Time Heroes)

“Looking forward to spin them!” DJ Laurel (Sound Diving, Minsk)

“No diggity is the one for me !!!” Markus Milz (further in fusion, Germany)

“I have one of those huge smiles on my face again, Teddy Riley’s favorite lyrics were YEP YEP, so It’s 100% YEP from me too, No Diggity is all about diggin’. That includes the flipside too!!” Georgios Paroglou (Greece)

“Personally as a dj, I’ve never been a huge fan of the big band stuff that’s been coming out over the last few years. There has been the odd track or 2 that I’ve added to my crates and I think this version of No diggity is one of them. Although I mostly think this stuff is best to see live there are a few tracks like this one which are well suited to club, bar or mixtape sets. Definitely be giving this one some airtime in all those areas.” DJ Strangefellow

Radio play from Lauren Lavern and Craig Charles (BBC 6Music); Toshio Matsuura, Radio Tokyo Moon (Japan); Russ Jones (HGT Radio)

The first in a brand new series of exciting Wah Wah 45s compilations!

The first of a fresh new series of digital only compilations from Wah Wah 45s, each complied by a member of the Wah Wah family. We kick things off, as you would expect, with head honcho at the label and international DJ, Dom Servini.

Dom’s selection features recent gems from the Wah Wah 45s back catalogue, including music from the Colman Brothers, featuring sister Sara on vocals; a classic from last year courtesy of Stac; Hackney Colliery Band in a more mellow mood; plus recent remixes from junglist don Cyantific and our very own Part-Time Heroes for Resonators and Colman Brothers respectively.

But it doesn’t stop there, the “Allo Love” series also reaches out to our extended musical family, current office faves and perhaps a sneak peak at a future family member! So, check brand new cuts from exciting young Brighton producer Ambassadeurs; long time favourite Landslide, featuring Sabira Jade on vocals; electronic wizard Yult with the incredible Tanya Auclair; jazz maestro Greg Foat; Mancunian troubadour Gideon Conn; plus a brand spanking exclusive new cover of a Stevie classic from Scrimshire and Stac! And not only that, if you purchase the whole album through the Wah Wah on-line store, you’ll get a stunning piece of contemporary soul from rising star Szjerdene for free!

What are you waiting for?

www.royalgroove.org

“OMG! Flipping heck! I am sat at my desk thinking I have not heard something this beautiful for ages; I am holding back the tears of joy and love! And the fact the sun is streaming through the office windows and it is hot outside makes this album even more fit for purpose! The most timely release, WORD!” DJ Kappa (Brighton)

“WOW what a fantastic compilation! Beautiful stuff ! Favourite tracks from the album: All I Do Is Think About You feat. Stac! : Loving the cover, played this on the show. Going to play again! Went down a treat. Some other wonder : Fabulous opening! Think It Through : Played on my show and Playing this on repeat daily, vocals and backing are amazing! Inland Empire feat. Tanya Auclair & Dig Deeper feat. Sabira Jade (Alternative Mix) : These two tracks are very cool on the album. Going to play on future shows. Over all I loved the album and how it flows. This is one for the collection!” DJ Nelson Ramalho

“Common knowledge and sense says that silence is golden, so I will use only one word to describe this release… Brilliant!” Dj Georgios Paroglou, Greece.

“The new gems on here are wicked! Dig the Resonators getting rejigged by Cyantific, and the Stevie cover is well classy. Top work all round.” Peter McLennan, Dub Asylum, New Zealand

It's here! The brand new, digital single is an atmospheric and haunting tribute to the masters of the soundtrack genre. Featuring an exclusive Part-Time Heroes remix!

It’s here! The brand new, digital only single from the Colman Brothers is an atmospheric and haunting tribute to the masters of the soundtrack genre. Hint of Schifrin and Morricone are all over “The Chief”, an unusually laid back outing from the brothers from Bristol.

Giving “The Chief” a makeover for the dance floor come label mates the Part-time Heroes, adding plenty of sub-bass, eerie keys and vocal samples, chopped up horn stabs and some particularly heavy beats!

“Killa remix!” DJ Laurel (Sound Diving, Belarus)

“Excellent remix from PTH Interpol Challenges Mix, supported on my show last week. Listeners liked the guitar part in the break. Beats are cool, bassline is hypnotic and over the track is a cool number to boogie to ” DJ Nelito

“The Chief is one of those nu-jazz beauties the Colman Brothers create. The PTH remix is, like always, a good addition and better rework” Santiago Tadeo Cervera (www.acidjazzhispano.com, Spain)
