SCRIMSHIRE / HOME FEATURING FAYE HOUSTON :: First single from new album The Hollow

23 Oct 2011 / 1 Comment / in :Scrimshire, Releases/by Adam

This October sees the return of singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, DJ and erstwhile Wah Wah 45s label boss, Adam Scrimshire, with the debut offering to be taken from his second album “The Hollow”.

“Home” is a good place to start for this latest opus, representing as it does a trip back in time to the roots of this young man’s music, with a more contemporary electronic edge. Stunning harmonies come courtesy of our very own Faye Houston from dub reggae favourites Resonators, and bass worrying dance floor interpretations are taken care of by U.S. heavyweight Captain Planet and those young turks from Leeds, Paper Tiger. But if time is needed for reflection, look no further than Scrimshire’s own acoustic ‘re-version’, with the man himself laying his soul bare on vocal duties.

“The Hollow” will be released by Wah Wah 45s on November 21st.

REACTIONS (Leave yours below too)

“I love it!” Danny Krivit (disco legend, USA)

“Perhaps Scrimshire’s finest hour, ‘Home’ is a heart-wrenching voyage of discovery.” Jon Freer (freersounds.com)

“Home is the perfect downtempo track. With its welcome hints of world sounds, it reminds of something you may hear on the Buddha Bar series.” Giant Step

“Home is perhaps Scrimshire’s finest tune to date. There’s an experimental edge in both the production and arrangement, however, it’s the songwriting that takes centre-stage, with Adam and Faye sharing writing credits. Defying facile classification, Home delivers a laid-back vibe with bite. It’s certainly not all fur coat and no knickers, with each spin leisurely unravelling the tune’s secrets, building its resonance.” Soulcuts

“Feeling the Captain Planet mix – nice !” Phil Levene (Global Soul / The Village, UK)

“nice one… i’m really feelin’ the paper tiger remix and the lovely acoustic re-version !!” Markus Milz (further in fusion)

“Captain Planet’s broken beat pearl remix, hurry  to test it!” Dj Laurel
Sounddiving group, Free Theatre Belarus

“Each of the tracks sounds interesting for me, but my favorites are Original Radio Edit, Captain Planet Remix, Acoustic Re-version” Dr.Best Radio Z 95.8 Nuernberg/Germany

“Digging that Captain Planet remix.” Paris Pompor, Sydney Morning Herald, Groupie Mag, Pages Digital, 2SER 107.3, Eastside 89.7

“I like this one very much indeed, the Captain Planet remix is massive!!”
Georgios Paroglou

“The beautiful and magically produced blacktronic music by Scrimshire is back, good news!” Santiago Tadeo Cervera (www.acidjazzhispano.com, Spain)

“Reflective, soulful electronica…” http://www.mememagazine.com/

“YES!!! So happy to get this, all versions are great but been mysteriously pulled to the acoustic version. Now onto the album if you will thank-you kindly! ;o)” King Tee, Audio Sunshine, RTE

“Great single! From the remixes I love Captain Planet’s most. And of course I’ll play the tune at my radio show.” Soulmate, “45 RPM” radio show

“So far I’m really liking the Home (Acoustic Re-version) and I’ll be playing it on tonights show. I might also support the radio version on a future show.” DJ Nelito

SCRIMSHIRE / THE LOW ROAD 7″ :: Featuring Marc Rapson remix

21 Jan 2010 / 2 Comments / in :Scrimshire, Releases/by Dom

Scrimshire – The Low Road 7-Inch Release by WahWah45s

Wah Wah 45s blow the doors off a new decade with a brand new release from our secret weapon, the mighty Scrimshire!

Having wowed us with his lush debut album “Along Came The Devil One Night…” in 2009, the young South London genius is back with a heavy re-working of album track “The Low Road” (featuring the rasping vocals of Rob Hynd) courtesy of production don Marc Rapson who delivers a remix full of musicality and pure dance floor filth! On the flip comes a brand new Scrimshire offering – a latin flavoured 4/4 joint featuring the sultry vocals of Miss Claire Laurent (last heard on the wonderful album highlight “Springtime”) that provides the perfect organic accompaniment to Rapson’s club banger!

There’s much more to come from Scrimshire in 2010, including a brand new album and remixes for all and sundry as more and more people cotton on to this young man’s prodigious talent.

Reactions

A rousing slice of future soul jazz from Scrimshire who ramp up the production values for their latest foray.  Vocalist Claire Laurent elegantly decorates ‘I Was Love’, a slick samba shuffle that shows a maturity in the arrangement, whilst the Rapson remix of ‘The Low Road’ combines a laid back piano and ARP groove with tougher drums and occasional gnarled bass. Smooth. 3.5/5 Found Sounds (DJ Mag)

This will be the big one in 2010. I Was Love – anthem alert!!!! This one cries for extended beats louie-vega-treatment-alike..! The Low Road – Mark Rapson Remix, killer music, i admire you and Simon…you just dont and didnt care about “dance oriented”, “crowd pleaser” and similar tags, one of the few labels survived which still put good music no much what it may costs… DJ Jazzmate (Balanco, Belgrade)

This is another quality Wah Wah release. Both tunes really cool, with “I Was Love” being more my kind of vibe. Am just listening the 3rd time in a row, really really good vibes! Karsten John (Vinyl Vibes, Germany)

Scrimshire in the remix is a very effective dancefloor anthem. On the flip…the new song with vocalist Claire Laurent is just amazing! Phil Horneman (Wicked Jazz Sounds, Holland)

Cracker! I Was Love is killer! Ross Wakefield (Part-Time Heroes)

The Rapson remix is a very nice facelift! ‘I Was Love’ is outstanding with its lovely vocals from Claire Laurent. Definitely on my playlist! Georgios Paragolou (Palov & Mishkin, Greece)

Really coooool release. Feeling ‘I Was Love’ the most. 8/10 Mike Stukes (Mystic Vybes, WHCR 90.3 FM, NYC)

I’m glad to hear great new stuff from Scrimshire – digging I Was Love! Snorre Seim (Butti 49, Oslo)

We have long since discovered Scrimshire’s talent, but it has to be said that ‘I Was Love’ is simply a beautiful song.
Santiago Tadeo Cervera (www.acidjazzhispano.com, Spain)

Scrim just gets better and better. The Rapson remix is just solid, love it. And ‘I was love’ …was lovely… Sammy Goulbourne (The Other Side Radio Show, Birmingham)

Top tunes! Phil Levene (Eclecticjazz.com)

I Was Love – nu-jazz pearl of the last decade, cannot wait for 45′s but must wait. it will stay in my bag for a long time. Ohhh, looking forward to test it for our ladies …. DJ Laurel (Minsk, Belarus)

Rapson remix is dooope! Love it. Contender for next radioshow. M-Path-IQ (Berlin, Germany)

Another soulful Marc Rapson remix masterpiece that blows me away again and again !! will definitely support !!! Markus Milz (Further In Fusion)

Loving both these tracks, winner for me is the Marc Rapson remix, gonna get heavy rotation on the show over the next few weeks. King Tee (Elbow Rooms)

Two absolute killers! Greg Clifford (Son Of Soul)

Brilliant release, will play on the radio & in the club. Rick Parry (Funkbeatsjazzradio)

Radio play from Kev Beadle, Solar Radio; Trevor Parkee, Australia; Michael Stukes, WHCR, New York; Phil Levene (eclecticjazz.com), Menno Jager (Sound Of Swound) and Phil Horneman on www.kxradio.com, Holland.

STAC / GLORY 12″ :: Scrimshire, King Knut & Pause remixes

14 Dec 2009 / 0 Comments / in :Scrimshire, :Stac, Releases/by Adam

Our sultry songstress returns at last with her second single on Wah Wah 45s, and in anticipation of her debut album, due out early next year. Having twisted our melons with the provocative “Balls Bounce” in 2008 (featuring a sublime remix from Bonobo) and spoilt us with the alternative smoky jazz bomb “Tip” on the latest Wah Wah 45s compilation earlier this year, Stac has spent most of the last twelve months playing live all over London, and beyond, culminating in the creation of her own choir, who follow wherever she goes and help spread her unique and quirky sound. Now Stac is back on wax with the anthemic “Glory” which had some of the UK’s most cutting edge producers queuing up to work with her.

Label mate Scrimshire offers up a dramatic minimal house interpretation; the mysterious Pause strips “Glory” down into a wondrous, melancholic piece; Leeds genius Prod takes care of the original version (featuring Mancunian trumpeter Matthew Halsall!) and Norwegian beat head King Knut comes through with a mind and genre-bending reinterpretation that rounds off this package perfectly.

There’s something for all the family, even your slightly demented uncle who lives under the stairs and you never talk about…

Available on 12″ now through Kudos Records or on digital download through the usual channels.

Reactions

“Love the Knut mix – LOVE it!” DJ IQ

“Really interesting; a song that’s quite pop but with a very different approach..nice work! The King Knut mix is really quirky and nice too.” Swell Session, Sweden

“I especially like the Scrimshire remix. That one goes straight in the box for my next tour!” Karsten John, Vinyl Vibes, Germany

Another corker! The Scrimshire mix is fantastic and totally unexpected. Love the original too! 8/10″ Ross Wakefield, Part-Time Heroes

“Stac – Glory (original version)…starts of with a broken beat feeling and after a while it turns to a laidback house anthem, combine that with the truly beautiful harmonies in the vocals and the trumpet and it’s a winner…this one is a winner for sure!” Georgios Paroglou (Palov & Mishkin, Greece)

“King Knut took a run at me and kicked me right in the knuts! (sorry). Like that remix a lot!” Sammy Goulbourne (The Other Side Radio Show, Birmingham)

“Really cool track, with wicked remixes, Scrimshire rmx impressed me and King Knut is so in the future I love it!. Cant wait to hear the forthcoming album from this really talented artist!. Full support as always.” Enrique Domenech (Fusionova021 Records)

“I really like the Scrimshire version of the Stac tune and reckon I’ll definitely be playing that one out.” DJ Griff (Jelly Jazz)

“As usual when you are talking about Wah Wah 45s releases, good remixes and an interesting original version. A full album with this voice must be a glory.” Santiago Tadeo Cervera (www.acidjazzhispano.com, Spain)

“All worth dipping in the tea! Especially the King Knut remix, top stuff, playlisted.” Phil Levene (Eclecticjazz.com)

“Liking the Scrimshire remix of Glory!” DJ Abbo (Starpoint Radio)

“A mix for everyone on this one. Love the Scrimshire mix and the King Knut is really doing it for me. Great release!” Greg Clifford (Son Of Soul)

Glory (Pause Remix) : Nice remix, no support from me though (8/10)

Glory (Scrimshire Remix) : Excellent! I will support this track on a future show. (9/10)

Glory (King Knut Remix) : I like beats in this remix (8/10)”

COLMAN BROTHERS / THE REMIXES :: inc. Greenwood Rhythm Coalition and Scrimshire remixes

03 Dec 2009 / 0 Comments / in :Colman Brothers, :Scrimshire, Releases/by Adam

Having been consistently one of our most popular outfits over the last three years or so with their infectious dance floor latin/jazz releases, the Colman brothers finally allowed us to reinterpret a couple of their finest moments and release them on limited fat wax!

The first single, and now classic, El Nino gets the rough bass bending samba treatment from NYCT head honchos and New Yorks finest, The Greenwood Rhythm Coalition, who also spoil us with some very handy Bonus Beats in the bargain too!

On the flip, our producer de jour, the mighty Scrimshire, comes through with a club friendly and very tasteful reworking of the latest Colman offering, Sem Amor, featuring Colman sister Sara on vocals!

www.myspace.com/colmanbrothers

Reactions

Colman Brothers / El Nino (GCR remix) contaminated dancefloor jazz with a thumpin’ bassline. Nice horns and by all means a wicked trumpet and a nice flow to it, just great!

Colman Brothers / Sem amor (Scrimshire) When you put together a nice latin groove, the Portuguese language, a beautiful female vocalist like Sara Colman, a mesmerizing trumpet and a summer sunset, the result is Sem Amor. This song is so GOOD!

Georgios Paroglou, Palov & Mishkin, Castablast, Athens, Greece

Both cracking remixes. Hard pushed to pick a fave, but I think the GRC just nicks it!! 8/10 Ross Wakefield (Part Time Heroes)

Niiiice! Absolutely love the two Colman Bros remixes. Will be playing both. The GRC mix is bang on and will definitely be played pretty much every week now for some time to come. I always loved the original Sem Amor but it’s difficult to drop on a non-jazz dance crowd as the tempo is so high. This Scrimshire version is a much more dance floor friendly groove. DJ Griff (Firefly, Rambunctious Social Club, Eden Project, Jelly Jazz, Plymouth & beyond)

Oh my gosh El Nino is wicked !! Absolutely feelin this one !!! Marcus Milz (Further In Fusion, Radio Corax, Germany)

Worth dipping in the tea! Top stuff. Playlisted. Phil Levene, Eclecticjazz.com

EL Nino is one of my all time favorites. And the versions are awesome too ! Angel Mishev, Sugar Club, Sofia, Bulgaria

Colman remixes are spot ON! Loving those and so will my listeners when play to them. Sammy Goulbourne, The Otherside Radio Show, Birmingham

Flip me, it has been a while since I have received a dancefloor banger! Thanks, I will be playing th GRC remix of El Nino this weekend. DJ Kappa (Brighton)

The Scrimshire rub of Sem Amor is a beauty! Greg Clifford, Son Of Soul

El Nino (GRC Remix) : I will support this on a future show. Good arrangement and beats. (8/10)

El Nino (GRC Bonus Beats) : Always nice to have (8/10)

Sem Amor (Scrimshire Remix) : Loving it! Perfect for my first half of my show, I will support this on my show. (8/10)

DJ Nelito

Nice one!, GRC remix is a really cool and groovy interpretation of original track, and the Bonus track is a dance killer! Full support. Enrique Domenech, Fusionova Records

Liking that GRC remix of Colman Bros christ child track, and so close to christmas too! Will be playing for sure. Paris, Groovescooter Records

SCRIMSHIRE / ALONG CAME THE DEVIL ONE NIGHT… debut album

25 May 2009 / 0 Comments / in :Scrimshire, Releases/by Adam

You would have thought that Rugby was famous for little more than, er, rugby, but no longer!! Egg chasing takes a back seat as Rugby born Adam Scrimshire unveils his debut album on Wah Wah 45s, and what a cracker it is!!

Is been a long journey for this young singer, songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist ever since his nan introduced him to an Errol Garner record at the tender age of 14.

Scrimshires sound is steeped in jazz, soul, funk and a little folk, but with a nod to contemporary sounds, and a strong crossover pop edge. Be in no doubt; this boy knows how to write a tune.

Following on from the club orientated singles You Will Save Me and Warm Sound (remixed by Spiritual South and Aaron Jerome respectively), Scrimshire released his third single, Certainly (featuring Norwegian chanteuse Inga Lill Aker) earlier this year to rave reviews, and now brings you his first full length album, already getting attention from Gilles Peterson and Nick Luscombe.

Its a sometimes melancholic, sometimes uplifting piece, with a very English feel. We think its safe to say this album couldnt have been made anywhere else!! Check the pastoral All Roads Lead You Home and folky title track for evidence of this. Elsewhere, the aforementioned Miss Aker adds soul on Warm Sound, Claire Laurent supplies the jazz on Springtime, and Rob Hynd the rasping vocals on The Low Road and Mistaken, while Wah Wah 45s Stac cameos on the quite exquisite I Have Come To You.

Scrimhire will be launching the album on June 6th at The Luminaire in Kilburn, London. Do not miss!!!!

VARIOUS / UNDERGROUND HITS & EXCLUSIVE BITS FOUR :: We Wah Ten!

07 Mar 2009 / 0 Comments / in :Colman Brothers, :Part-Time Heroes, :Scrimshire, :Stac, Releases/by Adam

Blimey, a decade of Wah Wah wax eh?!

Since starting out slowly with the Espen Horne single, (the now classic) Magnetica in 99, its been a long, exciting journey. Ten years later, weve released nearly fifty singles and almost a dozen albums; weve seen vinyl come, nearly go then come on strong again; weve moved into the digital realm with much excitement; and have seen our club nights grow from The Jazz Cafe, Cargo, Vibe Bar and now to our 10th Birthday Session at The Scala in October!! More details on that below.

On this compilation, a celebration of all thats fresh out of the Wah Wah camp in 2009, weve got soul/jazz treats from Scrimshire, Ashley Thomas and Stac; twisted electronica and dope beats from Unforscene (remixing Part Time Heroes), Red Astaire on the remix for Kendra Lou & The Miracles, and cutting edge Norwegian producer King Knut. Elsewhere theres stunning music out of Canada from Alister Johnson, Scrimshire on the bossa tip for his mix of PTH, dance floor funk from Jamie Finlay and Lack Of Afro (remixing Middlewood Sessions), brand new Colman Brothers latin jazz heat, and a killer jungle workout ofStep Forward courtesy of the mysterious Chief!!

Look out for the birthday party at The Scala in London on October 30th. It’s going to be a proper cracker! In the meantime, enjoy the comp, and heres to the next ten years!!

SCRIMSHIRE / CERTAINLY 7″ :: inc. Mistaken (King Knut Remix)

07 Feb 2009 / 0 Comments / in :Scrimshire, Releases/by Adam

Almost another year on and Scrimshires third single on Wah Wah 45s finally drops. Having wowed us with two house tinged joints (featuring remixes from Spiritual South and Aaron Jerome) the third coming is a Scandinavian special featuring not only the head nodding beats of Stavangers King Knut on Mistaken but also the lush vocal talents of Norwegian songstress Inga Lill Aker on the lead track.

Inga Lills vocals already charmed us on the Scandinavian Airlines favourite Warm Sound and once again she hooks up with Scrimshire to produce a jazz flavoured dance floor monster. On the flip, electro/soul whiz kid King Knut strips down Mistaken and resets Rob Hynd’s rasping vocals for a future down tempo classic!
