Wah Wah 45s present Ashim – a special Bandcamp exclusive, taken from the long awaited new album from Afro-dub masters, Soothsayers. With a history that goes back three decades, having released two classic LPs (Tradition and We Are Many) and numerous EPs and remixes on the imprint, the band deliver one of their finest pieces of music to date.
Meaning infinite in Bengali, Ashim is a deep instrumental track showcasing the band’s superb musicianship at its best, combining influences from jazz with African rhythms and touches of dub production. Its slow build reaches an intense and satisfying climactic chorus where the whole band takes off on an emotional and joyful melodic refrain that bubbles up from the smoUldering intensity to an exuberant release, before returning back down to the original groove, allowing space for some trademark Soothsayers’ horns interaction as the track fades.
With previous single, Love Is Still The Answer, being hailed as a possible “track of the year” by Jazz FM legend Robbie Vincent, and forthcoming album cut Roots being played by David Rodigan three weeks in a row on BBC 1Xtra, w anticipate a huge response to this very special slice of music.
